Some are teachers, some are musicians, and some legacies are in themselves dynasties. But my family’s legacy has a number of things. For instance.. Girls have ALWAYS been born first on my dad’s side of the family, my ancestors come from slavery, my dad, my brother, and I can’t read music but we know how to play them just by listening. But our family’s biggest and most proud of legacy is that there are countless generations on each side of the family that has served this Country.
My mom is a retired Chief and Corpsman. My dad is a retired Reserves. My Grandfather served his country when it was looked down upon to be an African American, but he served proudly in the Air Forces. My Cousin-in-Law Philip is with the Marines. My Cousin-in-Law Kevin is with Intelligence. My Cousin Aric and his Wife Bethany is with the Army. My Cousin-in-Law Brett is with the Navy.
I couldn’t be prouder of my family for their sacrifice and dedication to this Country. But I also appreciate the sacrifices that my cousins and other family members have to endure here at home. While their away serving, the ones left behind serve as well.
